This is unpretentious, shabby nightlife at its best!

An intimate venue with a warm, welcoming feel and a long tradition of wonderful live music and clubnights – its a hidden gem in Belfast’s nightlife.

Formerly a paint store, you can imagine the red brick building hasn’t changed much, either inside or out.
Dont bother dressing up, just bring your cool self for a night of good music – from DJ sets, to acoustic sessions, rock & punk to jazz & blues – goth industrial and everything else…

The Menagerie is a lively and fun loving venue in Belfast that embraces music and art under a wide and diverse umbrella that has no boundaries nurturing the talents of local and travelling up and coming artists and showcasing many larger profile international bands and DJs.

My work with the Menagerie has spanned nearly 5 years – from working part-time during my days as a student working behind the bar. Unfortunately the Menagerie closed as a venue in 2014 for a gap of nearly 3 years. I was given the opportunity to revisit the project in mid 2017 – resuscitating a closed venue and a dead space into the party atmosphere and intimate community that everyone who has visited fondly remembers – and inviting many new visitors to the enjoy the space and its parties and events.
My aim was to unite the community of artists, musicians and promoters to encourage the return of the Menagerie as a centrepiece of the Belfast music scene, and  make a return to hosting gigs most nights of the week and that undertaking in turn has produce a role where it has seen me dealing with the everyday management of the bar, events management, art direction, brand strategy, web design and design for social media and print.

The vast history of events at the Menagerie has been documented over the years by a large number of artists photgraphers and designers – as the business has evolved the digital viewpoint has seen a few variables in its life cycle.

Starting as a tumblr site – the site evolved to a more visually interactive platform, keeping subscribers up to date with schedule and program information and included an archive of many years of scheduled and past events before the clubs hiatus in 2015 resulting in the suspension of the site.
